Isle of Skye Self catering holiday cottages and B&B Accommodation around the Cuillins, on the Isle of Skye

The Cuillin are a magnificent range mountains on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The real Cuillin are also known as the Black Cuillin to distinguish them from the Red Hills across Glen Sligachan, which are lower with fewer scrambles or climbs.

The range  was featured on the 2007 ITV series, “Britains Favourite View”,  As the captain of the Misty Isles Boat trips, Stuart McKinnon said, "The harsh peaks of the Black Cuillins are the backbone of Skye, and nestle against the gentler Red Cuillins. Cross a wild and forbidding landscape to the remote port of Elgol to take a boat to one of Scotland's most isolated and breathtaking lochs. From Loch Coruisk's dark water, overshadowed by forbidding walls of rock, is Charles Kennedy's favourite view of the extraordinary heart of the Cuillins." . The highest point of the Cuillin, and indeed the Isle of Skye, is Sgurr Alasdair in the Black Cuillin at 992 m (3255 ft).

The Cuillin are the most challenging hills in the British Isles, although the careful scrambler can access most of the individual peaks by their easiest routes. Only the Inaccessible Pinnacle is a graded rock climb (moderate) by its simplest line but several of the other summits require rock climbing skills in order to ascend in safety.

For more information on the Cuillins please see the Cuillins entry on Wikipedia.
